Report on the Study on the Prolonged Stay of Residents in DSWD Center and Institutions

This study is a sequel to a 2004 investigation about residential facilities which revealed that the shortest period clients stayed at the center was six months, while longest was five years. Aimed at determining the reasons for prolonged stay in the residential facilities, the following specific questions are answered in this paper:

1. What are the blocks to effective termination of residents in selected
   DSWD residential centers?
2. How prepared are the residents for termination?
3. What case management practices enhance the preparedness of residents
   for termination?
4. What interventions are provided to disengage rehabilitated clients?
5. What after-care services are planned for the rehabilitated clients?
6. What policies and programs can be formulated towards short-term stay
   and rehabilitation of residents in the centers?
