The overall objective of the research study is to determine qualitatively and quantitatively the nature, form, and degree of the economic impact of Pantawid’s cash grant expenditures (or payouts) on the local economy.  The study’s overarching thesis is that the provision of regular and predictable cash grants to ultra-poor households in the context of malfunctioning or nonexistent markets can generate positive productive and economic impacts at the household level. In turn, household expenditures stimulate the growth of the local economy through (a) improved food and nonfood value chains, and (b) more integrated economic networks that link Pantawid beneficiaries to business groups, markets, and government and non-government stakeholders.
